About KUGWO
Built by Workers. Governed by Members.
KUGWO is not a project, a charity, or an NGO. It is a registered trade union under the Labour Relations Act of Kenya. This is the only democratic structure in the country built exclusively by and for the gig economy.

There is no "board of directors" making decisions in secret. Power here is built through the daily participation of workers who drive the cars, label the data, and build the code.
The Cost of Independence
Your monthly 500 KES membership fee is what keeps this movement independent. It ensures that the lawyers we hire, the offices we run, and the battles we fight are controlled by you, the worker, and not an outside interest.
Workers organize within their specific trades. Whether in a BPO facility, on a transport app, or as a remote freelancer, members define the specific tactics needed to outsmart platform tricks in their field.
Every leader is a fellow worker. Members elect them to carry out the specific demands raised during organizing meetings. No one leads without a mandate from the floor.
This is the Kenyan voice in the global struggle for digital rights. Participation ensures that when international standards are set, they are built on the lived reality of Kenyan workers, not the PR of tech giants.
To organize gig workers, foster strong representation, and advocate for policies and regulations that protect their rights and livelihoods. Through collective bargaining we ensure gig workers are heard, valued and protected.
To be the leading voice for gig workers in Kenya, shaping a digital economy where very worker enjoys fair conditions, a voice in the workplace, and access to social protection.
KUGWO is member-governed, member-funded, and member-directed. Every contribution protects strategic independence.
500 KES / Month
Funds legal defense, organizing, research, and worker-led policy advocacy.
Democratic Oversight
Leaders carry out mandates from members, and strategy is built through participation.
The principles that shape every campaign and every worker-led decision.
01
We enforce transparent pay systems, accountable terms, and fair treatment as non-negotiable labour standards.
02
Online, onsite, offline, and creative workers all organize together. No sector and no worker is left behind.
03
Individual conflict becomes collective defense. We face platform abuse together and negotiate from shared strength.
04
We adapt tactics, use tools, and build worker intelligence fast enough to stay ahead of platform control systems.
These are fellow workers with mandates from members, not bosses.
More voices showing how participation turns into leverage.
"Before organizing, payment delays felt normal. Through the union, I learned to document everything and escalate with evidence. My account issues are now addressed faster."
Janet Wanjiku
Onsite Worker, Nairobi
"I used to think bad ratings were just my personal problem. After joining, I saw patterns across workers and understood how collective reporting can force policy changes."
Hassan Ali
Offline Worker, Mombasa
"The union gave me confidence to participate in meetings and advocate for women in digital work. My voice now contributes to decisions that affect thousands."
Galiny Akinyi

Registration, reporting, and participation transform individual struggle into enforceable standards for everyone in the digital economy.
